In Memory of Walter Benjamin

#Paris Arcades

This is a video I found on youtube about the “Flâneur”.

“For the perfect idler, for the passionate observer it becomes an immense source of enjoyment to establish his dwelling in the throng, in the ebb and flow, the bustle, the fleeting and the infinite.” Charles Baudelaire.

What do you guys think? I’m kind of torn. Is this the flâneur or flânerie?

While I’ve never been to the arcades myself, I have been lucky enough to find photos of the Paris Arcades themselves through the blogosphere. My favorites have been from Dr. Christopher Rollason—who not only started his own Walter Benjamin website but has built a body of criticism on Bob Dylan as well. Its clear we were meant to be acquaintances at the Paris parlor, but such things never came to pass.
Thanks Professor! Maybe this will be the impetus behind my trip to Paris, which is far overdue!
